White Wing Viola Seed
New! Bred for cut-flowers with tall sturdy stems.
Plants elongate more quickly and with thicker, sturdier stems compared to varieties bred for landscape and container production, making them superior as cut flower varieties. 2–3" blooms. Plant habit is quite distinct from typical pansy and viola varieties that have been bred for landscaping and pots. This series has an open and slightly ranging habit with thick, tall stems. Fewer stems per plant than landscaping/pot varieties but stems are tall and thick and plants are fast to stretch. Flowers sit atop tall pedicels several inches above foliage. Elegant white blooms with dot of gold at center. Some blooms may have a pale blue cast. This series stood out in our overwintered trials as the earliest to reach a suitable height for cutting, producing tall (12–24") sturdy stems in our unheated tunnel (Zone 5).Specs:

Transplant - Sow 7-9 weeks before planting out. Will tolerate a light frost. Sow 8-9 weeks ahead if blooming in cell packs is desired. Cover seeds lightly. Excellent in containers and garden beds. Edible flowers and cut flowers.Select varieties (see variety descriptions) are suitable for cut flowers under the following conditions; grown from a very early spring planting or an overwintered planting so that well-established plants are coming into flower during the long days and warm temperature of spring and early summer. Long days and warm temperature cause the elongation of stems and profuse flowering that is required for quality cut flower viola.
For compact bedding plants, grow seedlings and young plants at cool temperatures and high light levels to minimize stretching.
